Good Afternoon Everyone,                                       8-15-22

I am sitting outside the store at the picnic table writing and hoping for an inspiration as to what would be a suitable letter to send to all our customers both near and far.

It is a beautiful day, fluffy white clouds floating along in a clear blue sky. The first bird I saw when I looked up was a possible immature Bald Eagle. Wow! It looked different from the half a dozen Turkey Vultures that are also soaring around overhead. The Eagle was on a mission, heading northeast and was soon out of sight.

This morning the sunrise was beautiful. Fog was in the lowlands and when the sun was in its red stage it shone through the fog, creating a rosy glow.

Green beans were a good crop, tomatoes are ripening, and sweet corn is delicious. The gardens did well. We have much to be thankful for as it is God who makes things grow.

Someone asked me for a Cabbage Soup recipe, and I found one in an old “Amish Cooking” recipe book.

Cabbage Chowder

4 cups coarsely shredded cabbage

2 cups sliced carrots

3 cups diced potatoes

3 cups water

1 tablespoon salt

½ teaspoon sugar

¼ teaspoon black pepper

4 cups scalded milk

2 tablespoons butter

Cook vegetables and seasonings in water until tender. Add the scalded milk and butter. Serve with crackers.

I may try it myself.

Have a good month,
