Good afternoon everyone,

We are again enjoying a beautiful, warm summer day. We were blessed with a nice amount of rain giving our lawns a boost. They are green again.

I picked my first vine ripened, yellow tomato last week and enjoyed a delicious BLT sandwich.

Ladies are busy with canning peaches, tomatoes, applesauce, etc. Teachers are preparing for another term of school. Some open in the week of the 19th and others the following week. That is reason to think the end of summer is upon us.

Events at Mt. Hope include:

  • Machinery Sale: August 24th
  • The regular livestock auction will be on Tuesday, September 17th instead of on Wednesday, September 18th.
  • Mid Ohio alternative animal & bird sale: September 19th-21st
  • Haiti Benefit Auction: September 6th-7th
  • Quilt Show: September 12th-14th

This morning, on my way to work, I took notice of the beauty in the countryside. The abundant green of the fields, the bright yellow of wildflowers beside the road and the cheery twittering of a goldfinch perched on the electric wire. The shadowy coolness of the woods, as I rode past, was calming. The scent of hay laying in the windrows ready to be taken into the barn smelled like summertime. To take the time and think about the beautiful things your 5 senses experience is restful for the brain.

Here is a recipe that looks like it would be fun to try:

Peanut Butter Quesadilla

  • 2 – 4” tortillas
    Chocolate chips
    Bananas
    Peanut Butter

Spread peanut butter on each tortilla. Add a layer of bananas and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Top with another tortilla. Heat a frying pan, add butter and fry tortillas until both sides are golden brown. (Taken from “Cooking In the Blessed Nest” cookbook.)
